Assisi - Cortona

You will meet your driver in the lobby of your hotel and right after that your day trip to discover those two jewels of the Umbria region will start.
The ride will last approximately 2 hr and while driving you, your driver will satisfy your curiosity answering all the questions you have about the places you are going to visit and the daily Italian life.
First stop will be the little town of St. Maria degli Angeli, where you will admire the beautiful duomo that hosts inside the "Porziuncola", the little chapel where St. Francis used to pray and where he died. In this little chapel he started the "Rule" of the Franciscan monks.
After you visited the Duomo, it time to drive up the hill till reaching Assisi, where you can visit the stunning Basilica dedicated to St. Francis.
Inside the basilica, you can see St. Francis' tumb and the frescoes of Cimabue and Giotto made in the late 1200 – early 1300.
If you like you can also go taking a look to St Claire basilica, where are relics of St Francis' life and where St.Claire, the one that started the "cloistered nuns", is buried or you will jump back in the car and drive towards the hilly town of Cortona, known after the movie "Under the Tuscan sun". Here you will feel just like the leading actor of the movie, taking a nice walk around the town, getting "lost" in the little tipical alleys full of local stores and enjoying the panoramic view where you can admire all the valley around.
Before getting to Cortona, if you start to feel a little hungry, there is the chance to have a little tipical lunch, stopping along the Trasimeno lake, where, being really waterfront, you can taste both flavours "Mare e Monti" (food with or without fish) otherwise, once in town, you will need just to choose between a "panino" or a tipical trattoria. Waterfront lunch, "panino" or "trattoria"... Whatever will be your choice... You will not regret at all!
Stuffed with good food and wine, little tired after all the beauties your day was full with, the ride back home will start and the only thing you have to worry about is to make yourself the most comfortable you can!
